A brief discussion with Carole, Beychac-et-Caillau « Maisons en vue » showroom interior designer and decorator Julien: Carole, could you tell us how you see your job as an interior designer in the specific universe of individual home building? Carole: In my opinion, interior design plays a key role. When you build a home in which you’re going to live, more than anything else you want to create your own world, furnish it and decorate it so that you really feel “at home”. But you know, it’s not always simple to describe what you really want. This is where the interior designer can help, by making suggestions which correspond to the need to feel “at home”, to be comfortable, to be at ease. J.: At what phase in the building project are your services required? C.: Once the plans have been drawn up and just before fine tuning, we organize a first meeting. My main priority here is two-way communication; encouraging our customers to talk so we can really find out what they want and what they need. J.: Interior designers generally have their own, very personal way of working. Can you explain your way of working to us? C.: First of all we need to think together of a range of colours that is both personal and perfect. Once we’ve decided on the colours, we then work together to blend materials, shapes and sizes with these colours.
Then, using the ideas that come out of our discussions, I sketch various examples of potential interior designs which we check over together to make sure we both have the same vision, the same idea of their wishes and desires. Then we go through the “idea notebook”*, containing the interior design sketches, details of the tiling, the listels and the colour schemes, which enables the customer to imagine perfectly and precisely what his future interior will look like and what it will be like to live there.
